Despite all forms of teasing about rigidity and general insanity from friends, family, lovers, and employers, I have done the 5am routine for the last 28 years. Some mornings can only loosely qualify as "exercise" but the time is mine alone and is spiritual in some way. Every day is a blank notebook page and all of us have pen and ink - morning exercise is a full mind/body meditative engagement where one can take a moment to choose what mark they will make in life that day.

Great Article! I highly agree with this method.
I find the morning hours to be very productive after a good workout.
The mind is fresh to deal with the day ahead and gives ample time to prepare the tasks of the day so one is not taken by surprise or rushed constantly over the course of the day.

At first waking early was difficult but after a few weeks I was getting up without the alarm and feeling alert as opposed to groggy. If I slept in late I just couldn't seem to be productive those days.

I also discovered that reducing my sugar intake greatly helped me have a complete nights rest and not have the urge to stay up to 2am.

Again, Excellent article
Thanks Mark for posting and Ken for writing!

Thank you Mr. Savage for your post. You have taken what I saw as a huge undertaking and describing it in a simple way that makes it easier to approach.

Sincerely,
