It is very important when studying martial arts to have personal goals. The goals can be the same as, different from, or related to each other. As we grow in age and experience, our goals can change.

Each martial art has its own set of basics. Sometimes the basics from different systems look the same, other times they look and are different. This can change based on when and where the martial art was created and who created it.

People ask me what are the goals of the training at our dojo, Boston Martial Arts Center. The goals of our dojo are varied. One is to find inner peace through the hardship of mindful martial arts training. We carefully guide the student to the path of self-discovery.

This path can be full of difficulties that can be overcome through our Ninpo Taijutsu (the self-defense method that we train in at Boston Martial Arts Center.) We train with our focus on understanding the basics within our own movement, awareness of our reactions and interactions with a sympathetic training partner, and with an eye to our personal achievement. This type of training can increase personal effectiveness, happiness, and self-confidence.

Martial arts training has showed me a path of living a full life that comes from the trials of hard work and mindful, direct experience.

When studying martial arts, it is very important to study distance. When we are doing are drills and randori (free movement), focus on how distance can change based on intent and whether the fight is armed or unarmed. Also know how this judgment works in life

One of the great things about martial arts training is how we can explore who we are as people on the inside. When training, the ability to make a decision under pressure requires strong focus in the moment. Live in the moment. Plan for the future. Learn from the past.

One of the great things about Ninpo Taijutsu (Body skill training for Self Defense) is the freedom of movement and natural energy flow that are with in basics of training. Using the skills from breathing and natural expansion of the body found Ninpo Taijutsu, this will direct the body’s natural energy flow into an extraordinarily strong health promotion and self-defense method.

Self defense is the process by which we avoid danger. This is done by
using a combination of our intellect and our physical bodies.
