Thousand times
April 20, 2012 by Mark Davis
When training in martial arts it is very important to keep an open heart to something that will change my life forever. Each time I work on a technique, I learn something new even though I have seen it a thousand times so it always fresh and new.

Martial arts is about facing real day-to-day life problems
April 19, 2012 by Mark Davis
The Boston Martial Arts Center was founded to study and understand martial arts for self-defense and to try and grasp the deep and full meaning of what it is to be a complete human. This can be accomplished by studying the old martial arts styles and applying them to real world problems that we encounter every day. This process has helped me understand that martial arts is more than just kicking, cutting and grabbing. For me, studying martial arts is about facing real day-to-day life problems.

Ninpo Taijutsu for self-defense
April 18, 2012 by Mark Davis
When using Ninpo Taijutsu for self-defense, it is very important to move in away that turns the attacker aggression around on them and reduces the defender vulnerable to danger. At the same time bring an end to the violence. Please think about these point in tonight class.

Martial Arts is about bringing a balance and order to universe
April 17, 2012 by Mark Davis
In martial arts, we seek not to hurt. We only seek balance. I feel it is very important, as ninjutsu students that we learn to shift are paradigm to our old out look about martial arts. You see in martial arts, it not about wining or losing it is about the ending of violence and bringing a balance and order to things. Without balance and order the universe cannot flow. This paradigm shift is very important to do when you want to grow as a martial arts student. (it, not about being soft …or ego, etc. it is about balance)

Self-defense under pressure from an attacker
April 16, 2012 by Mark Davis
Tonight we will look at how one would move when under pressure from an attacker. We will be moving in a way that will let the attacker make a mistake. Then we will turn the attacker mistake in judgment into strong counter attack for the defender. See you to night.

Training methods for self defense
April 12, 2012 by Mark Davis
Last week in the dojo someone, ask me a question about training methods for self defense. This lead to how do you prepare for no rules attacks were there could be weapons and more than one attacker, biting, spitting etc. (What we use to call “dirtying fighting” real world self defense). You have to training in a manner that would allow for open mindedness and open framework of martial arts skill training. This open framework would have to adapt, under pressure and keep you safe at the same time. How would you train for no rules attack?

Students achieve their goals with a clear heart
April 10, 2012 by Mark Davis
When teaching martial arts its very important to keep you mind on helping the students grow. In the process, you need to explore your motives when teaching. Help your students with a good heart and don’t let your insecurities, uncertainties and avarice control how you see your students. Help them achieve their goals with a clear heart.

Use your bone structure for self-defense
April 6, 2012 by Mark Davis
It is extremely valuable to use your bone structure to support your Ninpo taijutsu (unarmed fighting). The basic Kamae (Body/mind position) for Ninpo taijutsu is called shizen no kamae (natural posture). In this position body’s bone structure is self-supportive, and the breathing is flowing in a natural way, your mind will be open relaxed. From this position, you can move in all directions freely and react to danger from all sides. Look to move in a natural way so when danger is near your body you can flow to a safe position.

Martial arts training and improving my self
April 4, 2012 by Mark Davis
One of the many things I learned in martial arts training is to always look to improve my self. I never would say “I know it all;” I will work on a martial arts technique over and over again until I learn something new and then apply that new idea. I then start the process again. If I get stuck on a point, I will ask my teacher for help. Here is the key point to this type of training: you have to be very truthful with yourself about what you know before you move forward.
